Those who keep their minds
as they age
become the truly brave among us.
They know death is near.
They watch helplessly
as their bodies break down,
stoically keeping doctors appointments.
They come to accept their lot,
admittedly some more than others,
and quietly continue on
towards
the inevitable
end
of suffering.
Love the God, had said I
But truly, the God loves you.
One of the most nice poem on the tangible aspects of life, nicely articulated with the garland of words; hope for your continuation with the yacht of literature.

but whose bodies she has left for us to hold
these are bravest warriors of all.

Are you saying if they've lost their minds but their bodies are ok, then they're the bravest? That's how I'm reading it.
If they've truly lost their minds, so don't know their own predicament, and can only eat and sleep, I still have much compassion for them, but can't see how it's brave. If you're not scared, not aware, its not brave...is how I see it.
Liked your reference to god as 'she', by the way.

Hi Goddesss. It is far too simplistic to believe that Alzheimers or other dementia take away all awareness of the predicament people find themselves in. Most pass through many years of bewildering , confusing, and terrifying change as people, place, objects; move, age, alter again and again without explanation. Imagine Bettys husband waking up one morning next to a woman not only who he does not recognise but who is eighty to his eighteen? How about trying to find your way home from school to your mother, when she is long dead and the school is now a multi story carpark? Maybe nolonger recognising your own face in the mirror? Does this phase eventually pass into some peaceful half life? Can you know this for certain. What if the fortitude of the human spirit eventually stops you collapsing in terror again again. Perhaps the resilience that has seen you thus far in life comes to your aide once again. Perhaps God does settles herself in your heart and explains her purpose and lets you fly Jonathan Seagull like to another dimension, but maybe every so often you have to return to the body on earth and share again the suffering of the ones who have loved you or care for you or barely care to remember your existence....
That's true...we can't really know, and that's why I said, 'if' they've 'truly' lost their minds and awareness. I knew what I meant...lol.
It's all speculation.
